boek 26: De koffer, Bobje Goudsmit
Uit verveling gaat de zestienjarige Splinter tijdens de vakantie in Frankrijk met zijn moeder mee naar een veiling van oude koffers. Deze koffers zijn ooit zoek geraakt op het vliegveld en noot meer door de eigenaars opgehaald. Zijn moeder koopt er drie. Splinter vindt het ronduit belachelijk: er zit natuurlijk alleen maar oude troep in, wat moet je daar nu mee? Maar als hij de laatste koffer openmaakt, ontdekt hij daarin een stapeltje brieven, die grote gevolgen voor hem hebben. De kracht van suggestie speelt daarin een grote rol.
Conclusie: Er zijn wel wat losse eindjes aan dit tienerboek, maar het leest lekker weg en blijft boeien tot het einde.

boek 27: The wedding, Yann Queffélec
The brutal, barbaric rape of a precocious 13-year-old (hence the apt French title, Noces Barbares) and the ensuing birth of a son kept in solitary confinement in an attic for the first seven years of his life provide the setting for this gripping tale of emotional starvation. A hated, unwanted child just reaching his teens, Ludo has a single goal in life: to win the attention and love of a mother herself irreparably scarred. This novel counterpoints the sane against the insane, indicating how a society viciously misapplies the terms.
Conclusion: Anyone should read this book, not for pleasure, but because it’s very well written. The first pages are very brutal.

boek 28: The Bad Beginning: Book The First (A Series of Unfortunate Events), Lemony Snicket and Brett Helquist
This is the first book of the famous children´s books series about the Baudelaire siblings. As the series title, A Series of Unfortunate Events, implies, these children go through a lot of bad things. These books are pretty dark, considering they are written for children aged 8 and up. In tis book, the three youngsters encounter “a greedy and repulsive villain, itchy clothing, a disastrous fire, a plot to steal their fortune, and cold porridge for breakfast”.
Conclusion: I am going to read more books from the series, since I like dark and satirical children’s novels.

boek 29: De stenen kist, Kjell Eriksson
Wat op het eerste gezicht een Zweeds gezinsdrama lijkt, ontpopt zich als een moordzaak met internationale vertakkingen. Josefin Cederén en haar dochtertje Emily vinden de dood op een landweggetje. Echtgenoot Sven-Erik Cederén, eigenaar van het medisch onderzoeksinstituut MedForsk, wordt ervan verdacht hen opzettelijk te hebben aangereden. Als hij enkele dagen later dood wordt gevonden, denkt de politie dat hij zich van het leven heeft beroofd. Een overval op een tv-station verandert de zaak. En wat er dan allemaal boven tafel komt…
Conclusie: Spannende en verrassende thriller in een sobere schrijfstijl.

boek 30: Emil and the Detectives, Erich Kästner
Children’s book from 1931. Emil Tischbein is off on a small-scale adventure to visit relatives in Berlin. In the train, however, money he is carrying to give his grandmother is stolen while he sleeps. Emil doesn’t dare see his grandmother without the promised funds, so he’s off on a large-scale adventure to trail the thief. He is soon joined by a host of schoolboys free for the summer holidays, eager for excitement and importance.
Conclusion: Very funny and very innocent as well. A true classic.

boek 31: Bombshell, Lynda Curnyn
Grace, 34, feels she´s at a crossroad in her life. She could either stop dressing up and go to a sperm bank in order to get that child she really wants, or get it out there and show women over thirty aren’t sad and boring, au contraire!
Conclusion: Funny thirty-something chicklit, a bit more grown up than the usual twenty-something-novels.
