boek 19: Ashes to ashes, Tami Hoag
In the darkness a match is struck. Not for heat, not for light…but to ignite the fire of a killer. He leaves nothing behind but ashes…and the ice-cold certainty that he will strike again.
This time, there is a witness. But she isn’t talking. Enter Kate Conlan, former FBI agent turned victim/witness advocate. Not even she can tell if the reluctant witness is a potential victim or something more troubling still. And there, the search starts, only to get more and more complicated…
Conclusion: A very well written thriller, but very scary as well. I lost sleep over this book.

boek 20: De computerheks, Francine Oomen
Erg grappig spannend kinderboek voor kinderen vanaf een jaar of 8 over een heks die in de grote stad gaat wonen. Natuurlijk gaat er van alles mis met al die nieuwerwetse dingen als stofzuigers, computers en dergelijke. Ook komt er een slechte man in voor, maar gelukkig helpt Lot, die perongeluk bij de verkeerde deur aanbelde, alles op te lossen.
Conclusie: Erg leuk kinderboek, goed geschreven. Aanrader!

boek 21: Dr Kildare: The faces of love, William Johnston
Dr. James Kildare was a fictional character, the primary character in a series of American theatrical films in the late 1930s and early 1940s, an early 1950s radio series, and a 1960s television series of the same name. This novel is based on the television series. Dr Kildare comes to the rescue of a young woman whose face has been hideously scarred in a laboratory accident.
Conclusion: Nice read, quite moralistic and ethically correct, but romantic as well.

boek 22: Thirty Nothing, Lisa Jewell
Coming-of-age novel about thirty-year-old Nadine, a successful photographer, and Dig, an A and R man in the recording industry, whose teenage friendship was temporarily shattered by Delilah, who slithered sexily into Dig’s heart, only to break it after two years. And don’t bad pennies keep turning up? Delilah reappears 12 years later, disrupting the friendship of the reunited friends and turning Dig into a love-besotted idiot and Nadine into a desperately jealous woman who unearths her old college love in retaliation. You know the rest, don’t you?
Conclusion: Somewhat predictable, but Jewell writes it well. Enjoyable!

boek 23: Toiletten, Niels ’t Hooft
Ze kennen elkaar pas een paar dagen als ze gaan samenwonen: hij, een jongen met een levendige fantasie, en Loes, een studente die nuchterder in het leven staat. In hun piepkleine kamer zijn twee wc’s. Aanvankelijk is dat een grote luxe, ieder een eigen toilet, maar als het enthousiasme voor elkaar even snel weer gaat afnemen, worden ze symbool voor heel iets anders…
Conclusie: Gelukkig heeft dit boek minder dan 100 pagina’s; het had me niet veel langer kunnen boeien.

boek 24: The Nanny Diaries, Emma McLaughlin & Nicola Kraus
Satire about nannies and the rich families they serve in New York’s Upper East Side. The main character, called Nanny, works for the X family. She sees to all the needs of their pre-school son, and runs him to his constant stream of activities. Mrs. X treats her son as a fashion accessory and Nanny as less-than-human. Mr. X is distant and cold-hearted, and even his mistress asks Nanny for favors and errands. All this for 10 dollars an hour…
Conclusion: A biting comedy that certainly brings those that don’t know how to treat their children or hired help into the spotlight.

boek 25: Sushi & Chardonnay, Yoyo van Gemerde
Het valt niet mee een hippe, geslaagde Amsterdamse van (bijna) dertig te zijn. Nicki, die niets liever wil dan beroemd worden, en haar beste vriendin Petra, die carriere maakt bij een vrouwentijdschrift, ondervinden dit aan den lijve. Met behulp van mobieltjes, afhaalmaaltijden, zelfhulpboekjes en soaps banen ze zich een weg door de glitter en het klatergoud van het moderne leven. Ook meer serieuze onderwerpen als ziekte en verlies worden in dit boek aangeroerd.
Conclusie: Er zit niet echt een afgerond eind aan dit boek, jammer. Maar: een chick-lit waarin de hoofdpersoon aan het eind niet of haar perfecte man gevonden heeft, of besloten heeft de wereld in haar eentje te gaan veranderen, is wel bijzonder.
